Oh, about that question for changing the icon of irfanview, there is a webiste who has some tools for decompressing the exe-s, forgot the link tough.
plastic knows it i think.

Protools, you mean I think. Never tried decompressing and replacing though, but worth a try.
Really neat and clean theme (though I like a bit of color). Only thing that doesn't seem to match with the rest, but probably just me, is the rounded corners on the taskbar.

Thanks for the feedback on the style and the compressed exe question. Those rounded corners caused some comment last time round. I kinda like it though. As for colour, I have never been able to settle on colours I like and usually just end up using grey. The grey in this one is 208,208,208 which is a little lighter than MS standard 192,192,192 and gives a slightly softer look.
I forgot to mention that the theme really only works with the taskbar at the top of the screen. I havn't optimised it for side or bottom use.

I see you never got the corners of the taskbar and the corners of the windows to match up. Oh well, it still looks pretty good, if you ask me.

a program i've used for decompressing is
upx and it works pretty good.
nice clean screenshot, as well.

Tried the rounded corners on the windows but it really didn't look good to me after living with it for a few days. Maybe I'll have to make the theme in two versions - with rounding and without!

wow this is the smoothest ss here at vp right now. love the msstyle but im in the same boat as wint, win98. oh well...

I made this style so I could have a classic look but still be able to change the buttons. This is what I missed most after I left Win98 behind. Its kind of meant to emulate the look of win98 combined with eppie.

Looks great! My only suggestion for the theme would be to reduce the color depth of the bitmaps. That way, the size of the theme is cut in half (I got it to 533kb).

Yeah, thanks pogz and undefined. I'm not quite up to speed on reducing colour depth yet. I didn't even check the size of the uncompresed theme. Still learning...

If you have photoshop, go to Image > Mode > Indexed Color, which will bring up a dialog. You choose "Exact" for the pallete and don't have transparency if it's a bitmap. This usually cuts the size of things 1/5 or so for me, though too lazy to use

I don't suppose you know how to do it in PSP 7? Does anyone?

It's been a while since i used PSP5. I know you can force the colors down to 256, 16, and.. maybe 4 and 2 (black and white). But don't remember if the color tables or palletes can be edited..
I like it

always been a fan of the old mac look. I'm also glad to see more "old school" msstyles, definitively needed around here.

Yes schminimalischt, it seems that is all PSP can do at present (ver 7). I've just got photoshop 7.0 now so I'll attempt to cut the size down as my first learning project. Does cuting the colour depth down actually improve performance/redraw?
I've been working on an updade to the theme, adding slightly more colour and a few tasteful gradients. Never thought of it as a mac style - but I guess it is! Might release it this weekend.
Thanks for the kind comments kmr.
