Holy Shit. Very Impressive to say the least.

Great Job.

10 Apr. 2005 - 16:05 des
auh. i forgot to tell it's not finished yet. (i think shellstyle.dll and visual style files are finished) but i want to modify more & more things in the UI... ;-D

Looks excellent. Reminds me of WinT's work

That logon screen has to be the best I've seen. Care to post it?

11 Apr. 2005 - 02:38 beaker
good stuff, des!

11 Apr. 2005 - 14:15 des
undefined:

yes, a little bit WinT style. :D
... i think the position of the "username part" and the "password part" is not the best yet. i will move it to left (only some pixels). and the password area is too big yet. (i dont use any passwords.) but you can change it also as you want.

so here it is: logonui.exe

Thanks des. If I make any improvements I'll let you know.

12 Apr. 2005 - 22:07 TGHI
I like it. I am really diggin' that taskbar. Keep it up.

16 Apr. 2005 - 15:34 des
i made some tray icons for my usually used SW.

17 Apr. 2005 - 05:26 beaker
Even better now. I like this look, but I'd miss my color icons...

27 Jun. 2005 - 18:40 des
some things changed a bit . more icons removed from panels, dialogs, etc. now, there are more than 40 hacked files! (ehhe)

05 Aug. 2005 - 00:17 des
why i hate icons, i don't know. but i am close to the iconless windows. :D

just made some modifications, so here is a fresh screenshot

M3. is an icon. it doesn't show on taskbar because its color same as the "rectangle color in the taskbar's "icon area". so, it is "invisible".

the only bug is still the active and inactive "task-text" position on taskbar. :( difference is 1-1 px. (right, down). and still have to reshacks all used programs icon! :( but this "caption icon" imitates the iconless captionbar feeling. :D

05 Aug. 2005 - 16:11 beaker
I think I would chosen two colors that contrast a bit more, but I really like your style :) The other thing I'd do is have the icons be a square or rectangle instead of M3 because it blends into the titlebar text a bit.

I wonder if you could fix the text positioning by editing the font directly? Just a thought...

Looks good!

05 Aug. 2005 - 19:05 des
yes, i know the contrast on the taskbar (rectangle) is not the best. but must use a "light" (white, grey, etc) color for the m3 text (and for the task-rectangle) because the captionbar is brown. you know...

the other things; i dont want icons on taskbar because this icons also effects on active/inactive status. also 1 px the difference. looks sux, when the active task icon is placed down by 1px.. :( inactive task icon position is okay. but the active.. grhh.. "looks terrible".. ehhe.

i know there is an app (shellwm, i think.... or somethin'. i dont remember exactly) that do hide the captionbar icons, but i dont want to run an app only for one feature. you know. :D i prefer the "classic hacks", to do something with the system files... not to have a bunch of apps to get a new look of windows.. etc... okay... i use some of them. :D.. and to use a visualstyle is acceptable for me. :D visualstyle is goooooooooood. god.

and i will try to fix the text position on taskbar with a font editor. but my font editor has a 30 days trial...sux.. it's expired. so have to get a free app.

btw, thanx

m3 is from: MiniMalisMod. :D ehhe.

i have a new desk. (...after a long time, ehhe :D) a litte bit lighter than the previous and more simply. (rainlendar is at the bottom of the right corner.) here is a little 400*300preview gif. bigger picture comes later on my page!. i am working on it. :D

Looks nice! Very high quality desktop.

My biggest complaint is you need a matching winamp skin. That's easily remedied, though...

29 Sep. 2005 - 21:58 des
thanx again. :D about the winamp skin; yes i know it but can't find a good classic skin (i am too lazy to make one myself) just downloaded this skin 7-8 years ago and recolored/changed a bit. i am using winamp 2.x btw. winamp 5 will be better to skin the winamp, i know. but i hate the WA3 menus and others. (too much work to hack it and etc..) but i don't know... maybe i will try it again...

30 Sep. 2005 - 04:24 beaker
WinT's partial to FrostedFlames's WinAmp skins. I will say that they are easy to recolor.

btw, I'm impressed with how you logged every dll file you hacked. Do you have a master list of everything you changed (in case of a crash). If so, you're my hero ;p

30 Sep. 2005 - 22:46 des
hehe.. i haven't got any logs, lists of my hacks. this is all in my mind (momentary). :D but good idea to write a "log/list" of my modifications. but my english isn't as perfect as i want it to be... hmm, but i will write something. lol. (i wrote to a cd my hacked dll's, so no problem if anything crashs, or something..)

btw, i have a list (i wrote) what dll is what for. just a simply list like this:

nethshell.dll = connection status, lan, tray icon, network...
comdlg32.dll = open/save dialog, find/replace text dialog...
...etc.

btw i am playing now "WS_EX_TOOLWINDOW", "WS_EX_APPWINDOW" and "WS_THICKFRAME" "EXstyles". by using of TOOLWINDOW i can make the dialog window's captionbar smaller/thinner. and this removes the caption icons and the minimize, maximize/restore buttons also. (but still has the capability of minimize/restore with the sysmenu./ right click on it and choose from the menu.) unfortunatelly only works/can be used in dialog windows. my calculator (+ and more) has this "TOOLWINDOW" "dialogEX style". it's a cool thing. and i can remove the dialog's taskbar also by not using the WS_EX_APPWINDOW.

i hope you know what i am saying. :D here is a picture if you don't understand. :D http://img284.imageshack.us/img284/3979/help9oj.png
cool.

des... this desk looks nice, and very familiar too :) I enjoy seeing that from you. Alot of folks don't like to be compared to anything, and I'm not really comparing I don't guess, but that just looks alot like a desk I would do :) I enjoy that a great deal, we've got the same taste buds ya know? You did good work, and I'm with beaker on the winamp skin, but not a problem, though FrostedFlames skins are VERY good to use. Find them over at Customize.org

As for your last post... if you feel like digging through some history, do a forum search here at VP on that same subject. I found those styles a long time ago, and came up with some VERY interesting combinations for them, loads of different usages. I did several tutorials on those styles at my site a while back too. Ton's of things you can do.

Anyway, not trying to toot my horn or offend you in any way, but you seem to be going down the same road I did, and am still on, which I like. We should put our heads together and tear some stuff up! :) Hey, wait until you start finding the tricks for menu's, you'll love those too :)

Good work again on that desk though, like it alot.

03 Oct. 2005 - 00:06 des
yeah, i like your works also. so, we have the same "taste" as you mentioned. :D

later i will change/recolor my WA skin and maybe do something minimal modifications/hacks with the "WS_EX_TOOLWINDOW"...

i like this page. very cool informations are here. but i didn't see this yet (this toolwindow style stuff). VP knowledgebase is "very big" and i always find useful and cool stuffz here. great.

+ and didn't see on your page too. (or just don't remember)

03 Oct. 2005 - 00:52 des
i checked this "FrostedFlames" winamp skins (more versions) on customize.org, but i don't like this very-very-very minimal style *_* my main problem is; a lot of space is blank, dead square on it. it's too minimal for me. ehhe. but "exploityourpotential v1.0" is better a little bit. :D

winamp 5 would be the best to make a cool minimal skin but i hate w5. > its startup time is damn slow.. and has more annoying damn stuffz...:(

i think i will spend a lot of time finding a good WA 2.x skin... ehhe.

03 Oct. 2005 - 07:49 WinT
I understand, though I've always thought that if your desk is minimal, so should your skins be as well, but just me, not a rule or anything :) The beauty of his skins though, IS that open space, meaning, you can ADD to them, which you just can't beat with a stick on Friday ya know? :) WA skins used to give me hell, in fact, I used to not even use them in my shots long time ago, simply because I could never find one that matched, but now, with recoloring, altering the graphics, etc... I'm in the park everytime. I mean, it might not be the best skin, but you can never say it doesn't match, which is all I ask for. As long as it matches, it works :)

And hey, keep digging around with the dialogs and such, you'll just keep being amazed by what you can do. The options are just crazy man, all sorts of good stuff :)

Take care, have fun :)

03 Oct. 2005 - 23:32 plastic
Hah. 'cuse me, you minimal guys, but that last bit of conversation made me realize I didn't expect either of you to be Winamp users at all, actually. Shouldn't you two be running foobar and something likewise minimal ?!

04 Oct. 2005 - 00:15 des
i (very) like winamp. i never tried foobar, but it looks so "big" for me..(saw only on screenshots) and i dont like it... but i will give a try it. (last chance or something. :D) i dont want to change. winamp is good for me. (my first mp3 player ever and think it is the last too. :D)

okay, my wa skin doesn't match my "hacks" as well but i like it. (if i find better i will change ofcourse)
i am a "half minimal" guy, btw :D ehhe.

edit: ok, i just tried foobar. would be good if... but.. ah.. i try to hack it, and i will see.. :D

04 Oct. 2005 - 10:47 WinT
Hmm... foobar, well, love the concept, not the configuration. WA actually works quite well, and is lightning fast here on my machine, though still using the last "classic" version. Have never, nor will ever upgrade to the newer versions. The one I have now is "2. something" not sure, but it works perfectly, does all I could ever ask for, and love that equalizer too :)

04 Oct. 2005 - 21:03 DJ_Loao
Yea, I'm a Winamp man, too... I agree winth WinT that the 2.xx series is fast as hell, and the large plug-in database means I can always get it doing exactly what I want.
Not that I'm bashing Foobar, of course. If I took the time to get used to it, I'm sure I'd enjoy using it just as much. I have a short attention span these days and I haven't bothered using it for more than half an hour! It supports plugins, doesn't it? The biggest draw for me is it has always used less memory than Winamp, expecially with large playlists.

In fact i've just talked myself into trying it again!

05 Oct. 2005 - 06:45 WinT
I'm with you DJ, not bashing FB at all, just not willing to configure it, would rather devote that time to my desk I guess, which FB would be part of if I'de just try it, but oh well, hehe :)

06 Oct. 2005 - 19:49 TGHI
Winamp 2.91 all the way! Yeeeehaw!

21 Oct. 2005 - 13:57 des
i am using active desktop now, and having a little "bug" or something. (it's not a real bug just an annoying stuff ). when i refresh my desktop the active desktop's background color change back to the default white color for a moment (it is just a flash, so no problem, just annoying a little bit :D!)

where can i change this color to my own color? i tried to write some code to "deskmovr.htt" without any succes. :(

any idea to change it?

22 Oct. 2005 - 00:17 plastic
Isn't that just the IE engine, "no page loaded at the moment" color ? Oh wait, no (well, yes, but engine uses), window background color (mine's 255 255 252, so I could check). This might be something you have to live with.

22 Oct. 2005 - 10:44 des
damn. ( i thought! ) but it's not a big problem.
thanks plastic.

15 Aug. 2006 - 00:49 des
there is a little update on my iconless/colorness desktop. :)
http://www.customize.org/details/46584
hehe.. it's time for 'back to the basics' or something... :)))

the reason i changed my previous desk is i have now lcd-monitor and the another desktop was too bright and it didnt 'match' to the monitor. :))
i dont know, just felt it's time to change.

I find it humorous that your admin rankings directly correspond to how close of friends you are with the admins over at custo. I find myself going there less frequently due to the immature admins/users.

16 Aug. 2006 - 21:35 des
hehe. it's really 'humorous' (strange) because i dont know the admins there. :)

20 Aug. 2006 - 00:00 DiosDePyro
This forum is the most mature forum I've ever seen. All of the other 'hacking' (or modding) sites out there are filled with immature spammers//wannabe crackers//people who think that modding and hacking are the same thing and because they can use someone elses programs, they think they can hack.

Congratulations to Plastic, WinT, Des, Beaker, GriGri, and all the others that contribute to and run this site.

The best part is, this forum has been open forever, since like 2003. Most forums die after about a month or two, then new ones pop up. This one has outlived all of them, and hopefully will for a while!

wow is right, I missed this comment. Mucho thx, dios (and others). I really miss the community at skinz, I think this site is closest to it's maturity level.

You guys all rock! :)
