Sphinx
with IconWorkshop when you create 256 color versions of xp icons, it removed the transparant stuff, like shadows, quite well..

welcome to the msgrd nakm
they can be changed , but that depends...
if the author made them only for XP(32-bit) when you convert them they are jagged around

again, welcome nakm.
i've messed around with trying to convert these beautiful XP icons as well, and alas, the dreaded jaggies... alpha-blending is sweet, but not when you don't have it..

this would need to be done from XP. change the desktop's background-color the color you've got on your own machine, and then screenshot the icon. then, you'll need to use a magic-wand style selection tool ( if your graphics editor hasn't got one, check out
the Gimp ) . you'll probably need to fiddle with the sensitivity settings a bit. but this way, your 'jaggies', though still there, will be the right color, and far less noticeable. fiddle with things enough, and you might get them completely invisible
good luck with it
Just an idea that might help non xp users. Aren't there apps to let you use bitmaps as icons on the desktop? I like make say, a screenshot of an xp icon cut into a square saved as a bmp into your My Computer "icon"?
