The Great Icon foul Up

Hmm, I?ve decided to remove the last of my Stardock apps from my system ? Iconpackager. Unfortunately it has left most shortcut icons and .exe icons displaying as the default icons windows uses when it doesn?t know what the file is. This is right throughout my system including icons in application folders and in the start menu.

I have tried reinstalling icon packager and using its own tools to repair the situation, but this only works as long as icon packager remains installed. If I remove it things break again. I?ve also tried tweakui?s repair function, but this has not worked either.

Finally I tried deleting iconcache.db, but this also has no effect.

Can anyone suggest anything else to get my icon mess cleaned up. I?m totally beaten.

I had the same problem with a similar icon-altering package...
Fortunately, it was a small ActiveX thing, so it doesn't hurt too much to keep it installed until my next format/reinstall! :o

I'm pretty much resigned to this now. I will never touch another of these programs again.

Have you tried using iPhile? I find it works nice here - plus there's no installation file, just a straight up exe.

Try running a tweaking program like XSetup or TweakUI and using their Restore Default Icons options. Maybe in ShellExView or FreshUI? Cant recall which ones have it.

Can anyone link me to iPhile? The original is offline.
