I just manually changed my icons for drives and file folders in the Folder Options>File Types. After I did this every time i tried to open a drive or folder it brought up the MS Find dialog. I did some editing to the run action for those File Types in Folder options, but the best I can get is opening them in a new window, and for some reason I can't edit those actions once I set them. Any ideas?

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell and
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell

Default values should be set to 'none'. That should fix the opening in new windows. If there's more trouble, here's the XP default settings (I omitted the 'shellex' subkeys as there's some things there specific for my setup) - note the DefaultIcon keys:
