Transparent Taskbar Picture

I'm modding Explorer.exe and I've been trying to make a picture to replace the little Windows logo. It's easy enough to replace the bitmap, but I am also trying to make anything in the background of the picture transparent, such as the logo. When you look at it in ResHacker it has a black background and when you try to resave it as a .bmp it comes out with the black background...

Here are some examples:

You sir will need a 32-bit bitmap editor. Newer versions of Photoshop should satisfy--just remember to save it as a 32-bit bitmap.

Thanks for the help, but I still can't get it to work. Does it have to be a certain color to be transparent? I made the outline transparent, but that turned it white, and I used black, like what shows up in the second picture.
What could I be doing wrong?

It's not a specific color, 32bits means color is stored as RGBA, which mean in addition to the color, there's an alpha channel which needs to be set. I think photoshop can save 32bit bmp's, but not load them. Check http://www.virtualplastic.net/html/art_hack.html#intro Editing (advanced, XP)

I find Paint Express is very good and easy for making and editing BMP32. Just for future reference...
